The proven link between performance and wellbeing

It wasn't that long ago that we used to talk solely about performance. There was scant regard for an individual's wellbeing. Recently, wellbeing has come into the conversation more and more.

We started to talk about performance and wellbeing. Now, I tend to think performance is wellbeing - wellbeing is performance. The two are inextricably linked.

If things are going well for us outside of our performance domain, then we feel good about ourselves. This puts us in position to deliver consistent high-level performance. When we perform well, we feel good about ourselves. It's a virtuous circle.

Alas, the converse is true. When there's chaos in our personal lives, it's more difficult to deliver consistent high-level performance. When we underperform, that has a negative effect on our wellbeing. A potentially destructive cycle.

So, high levels of wellbeing are vital for consistent high level performance.

We need to look after ourselves!
